An Experienced Boat and Crew

Second Wind sailing off TrinidadSet sail on Second Wind – our 43 foot Endeavour, cutter-rigged ketch.  She is a big, beamy, cruising sailboat that was built for comfort in almost any weather condition.  Her large center cockpit will comfortably seat up to six guests as you ride high and dry enjoying the smooth waters of the upper Hudson River or the warm clear waters of the Florida Keys.  Laura and I have spend the past three years whipping her into shape for long range cruising and chartering.  The results speak for themselves.

Your Crew

"Both of you were great hosts and really went to great lengths to ensure we enjoyed ourselves..." - R.S., Roslyn, PA

Captain Bill and First-Mate LauraCaptain Bill has been boating for over 20 years and holds a current U.S. Coast Guard Captain's license.  He, and First-Mate Laura, have sailed the U.S East Coast, Florida Keys, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, U.S. and British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean islands to Trinidad and Tobago (and back!).  Taking advantage of a fantastic opportunity, Captain Bill sailed 4,400 miles as a senior crew member on a private, 48 foot ketch from New Zealand to Hawaii.  He greatly enjoyed the Vava'U islands (northern part of Tonga).  A highlight of his Pacific sailing was a 7-day broad-reach for 1,200 miles from Christmas Island to O'ahu, Hawaii.

He is a past Commander with United States Power Squadrons (USPS).  As a USPS instructor for 7 years, he helped educate new boaters by teaching many courses including Cruise Planning and Marine Electronics.

First-Mate Laura loves sailing as well as helping other people enjoy boating with the wind.  She is a gourmet cook who specializes in baking pastries and desserts.  She enjoys the challenge of tightly cranking in a jib sheet for close-hauled sailing while baking fresh desserts in the galley.

Our other qualifications - Captain Bill and First Mate Laura are both ASA (American Sailing Association) certified in Basic Keelboat, Bareboat Chartering and Coastal Navigation.  They each hold current certificates from the American Red Cross in Emergency First Aid and CPR

"We love sailing and sharing the experience with others."  Captain Bill and Laura both grew up in Upstate New York and feel the Hudson River is an environment everyone should appreciate and experience.  Annual vacations in the Florida Keys quickly turned into a love-affair with the beautiful waters and laid-back atmosphere.  After sailing Second Wind to Florida on their way to the Caribbean, they spent several months exploring The Keys enjoying beautiful beaches and making many great friends.  They now spend each winter there to enjoy their favorite places with guests while continuing to discover exotic anchorages.
